You don't need life insurance if you're single, but some people like to have it to in order to do something for someone in case something happens to them. There is also the need to pay for funeral expenses if you die, and that takes the burden off of loved ones. Of course you may be single and have a child, so you would want to take care of them if something happened to you.
If you're single without a child, other than funeral expenses there's really no need to buy life insurance.
