The need for renters' insurance will primarily be based upon the contents of what you have in your apartment. Is the stuff in your apartment worth the cost of the insurance. Are your belongings and furniture largely inexpensive and easy to replace if they were damaged? That's really the bottom line in determining whether you should get renters insurance or not. Don't assume nothing can happen to you if you don't have renters insurance, as it can when you're in an apartment. And legally a landlord doesn't have to pay for damage to your personal goods in the apartment, as that's the purpose of purchasing renters insurance in the first place. The need for renters insurance is determined by what it would cost you to replace something that you consider important if damaged.
