All too often in the United States the financial and non financial media the current performance of the “Dow Jones” index is reported. The fact is that there are various Dow Jones Indexes from the Dow Jones Transportation Average to the Dow Jones Utility Average. However, more often than not the one referred to primarily in the media is the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is comprised of thirty stocks that are supposed to assess the industrial sector of the United States Economy. This may have been a more accurate assessment when the index was originally created but, when you look at some of the current components of the index it is clear they have global reach and their performance impacted on a global level.
