Wills in the US can vary in price. Writing a will can cost from hundreds to thousands of dollars. This is because it may take longer to manage a complex financial situation, or it may be relatively quick for someone without many assets. Many attorneys ask for a flat fee to write a will; this is a good way to go because it can control costs. This is a situation in which it truly pays to "shop around". The cost for a will varies widely as attorney's fees do. Dealing with a solo practitioner may also reduce costs; large firms most often a) do not do probate and b) typically deal with corporate clients who pay very, very high fees. Also, working with a firm who specializes in wills and probate is likely to produce a more favorable result. They do these things all the time, they can do it quickly and efficiently.
