Most financial planners recommend having a minimum of 3 months worth of expenditures put away for an emergency savings account. This number can fluctuate depending on the risk factor of the source of income. Sales job tend to require more of a buffer and entrepreneurs may need up to a years worth of money saved. Keep in mind these are just benchmarks to go by and really depends on each individuals level of comfort.
