Any investment decision should be done with a financial advisor and with your comprehensive investment strategy in mind. With that said, you will want to start by getting as much information about your 401k from your plan administrator to review with your advisor. You will want to discuss with your advisor any plan employer contributions. Many times they match a certain percentage of your contribution up to a certain percent. You will want to discuss the investment options with your advisor and how they would fit into your overall strategy. You will also want to discuss any other retirement plans you participate in. (i.e. two employers with two 401k plans) You may also arrange to have a meeting with your financial advisor and tax advisor at the same time to go over key decisions and the tax implications they may have.
