In the vast majority of cases, you don' t have to do a thing, as most banks automatically include that as part of a debit card issued on your behalf. Pretty soon new laws will require the bank to tell you about the overdraft option and you'll have to make a choice whether you want it or not. Either way, if you want overdraft protection it's very easy to get. Just be sure you're good at managing your money or you'll have to pay significant fees for overdrawing your account.
