The jobs in venture capital are almost exclusively in venture capital firms. Venture capital funds manage and invest a pool of venture capital from various sources. So how does one land a job with a venture capital fund? There are a number of things that will help: 1) Getting a business degree from a top school. While this is definitely not a necessity, it will certainly help you to get a foot in the door. Some firms will reject out of hand applicants who don't have a business degree from a top school. 2) Getting experience working in a start-up company, particularly one in the technology sector. This will give you experience in what works and what doesn't in the start-up world, which is invaluable for when you're on the other side of the table. 3) Getting experience working in the corporate finance world, for example in a bank. 4) Establishing an on-line presence in the venture capital world, for example by commenting on the venture capital blogs of others or starting your own.
