Today (2009) it's perfectly possible to trade commodities completely online, just as it is for stocks. The days of calling your broker to buy or sell are largely over. The first thing to do is to find a commodities broker that has an online facility. Options include TradeStation, Daniels Broking, and Interactive Trading. You'll then need to go through your chosen broker's account opening procedure, which will require some paperwork. If you are approved, you'll then be able to start trading, but it's better to 'practice' using your broker's simulated trading platform before you start with real money. Commodities trading carries significant risks, so it's not to be taken lightly.
