Whether something is expensive is relative to each person. What one consumer finds expensive, another may find affordable. Further, the cost of motorcycle insurance varies greatly according to the driver's safety record, and the type of motorcycle. A new motorcycle with a large engine that is turbocharged and has high horsepower will be the most expensive to insure. This blends the increased risk associated with racing capacity, as well as the statistics around motorcycles with these parts. BMWs and Harleys are both notoriously expensive to insure. Worse, some motorcyles are not insurable at all, such as custom bikes. Be sure to check a) whether insurance is required in your state and, if so, b) if the bike you are planning to buy is insurable before you purchase it so you do not get stuck with a bike that is illegal to ride.
