Renters insurance is not required when renting an apartment or house. It's not a bad idea to obtain it though as renters policies are relatively inexpensive and provide two types of coverage. It contains coverage C - Personal Property and coverage D - Loss of Use which is set at 30% of whatever coverage C is set at.
