A CD or a Certificate of Deposit is basically a time deposit. It’s very much alike with a savings account as it is insured and risk-free. The difference is that it pays higher than a savings account because the money is invested for fixed periods of time—could be 3months to years. When you get your money before its maturity, the investor will need to pay an early withdrawal penalty.
