An investment fund can be a number of things, but for the most part and investment fund is synomymous with a mutual fund, although others like hedge funds would also be considered an investment fund as well. Mutual funds are used to invest in a variety of companies, bonds or money market funds based upon specific goals of the individual or institution, and focuses on specific sectors of the market based upon those goals.
