Normal business hours for the New York Stock Exchange are from 9:30am to 4:00pm eastern standard time. This excludes any exception made to the hours or trading and does not take into any trading restrictions, trading curbs or trading halts that may come into effect due to market conditions. Trading curbs can be put into effect on a specific security that is trading or on the entire exchange and will involve restrictions on certain trading strategies. Level one halts will halt trading for one hour and is usually invoked if the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) declines by ten percent. Level two halts will halt trading for two hours and is usually invoked after a twenty percent decline in the DJIA. Level three halts will halt trading for the remainder of the business day and are invoked typically after a thirty percent decline in the DJIA. Trades executed by member firms after 4pm EST are done as “after hour” trades. The standard US Holidays in which the NYSE is closed annually are New Years, Martin Luther King Jr, Washington’s Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. For Euronext the Holidays are New Years, Good Friday, Easter Monday and Christmas.
