Safe investments are typically Certificate of Deposits (CD's), Money Market Accounts (MMA) and government bonds. While their return may be low the risk of losing some of the investment is nearly zero (CD's and MMA's are insured by the FDIC so the risk is zero). The safest investments always have the lowest return because the risk is low. You can generally gauge the risk of investment by the return offered. When investing always balance your investments based on your goals and appetite for risk.
