At the time of writing (November 2009), income tax rates for Australia were as follows: between 0 - $6,000, nothing; between $6,001 - $35,000, 15c for each $1 over $6,000; between $35,001 - $80,000, $4,350 + 30c for each $1 over $35,000; between $80,001 - $180,000, $17,850 + 38c for each $1 over $80,000; and for $180,001 and over, $55,850 plus 45c for each $1 over $180,000. The top tax rate for income tax was therefore 45%, and the lowest, 0%. Company tax rates were a flat 30%. Payroll taxes, while differing from state to state, were all around 5%. Tax on superannuation contributions were a flat 15%.
