Some disadvantages to purchasing a condo are that you have to pay condo fees/maintenance fees in order to maintain the common areas of the condo. This can be a disadvantage when the condo association mismanages the funds and fails to maintain the common areas. As the condo owner, you are still obligated to pay the fees, even though your fees may not be going to good use.
