Normally laws will determine what type of insurance you must have if you're still paying for your vehicle, although there can still be minimum coverage which you may want to add if you feel it's not enough if you get in an accident. The most important answer to the question is usually with a car you've already paid for, but which either has low mileage and/or a long lifespan ahead of it even after you've paid for it. It's here where the difficulty lies in if something happens to it and what type of coverage you should maintain on it if it does. If the car or vehicle still retains significant value, you may want to keep something besides liability on it in case it does get damage from an accident.
