Unfortunately, there's no simple answer to the question 'what does it cost to get a patent'. There are many separate costs which might be incurred (such as the cost of having the patent application prepared by a patent attorney), as well as some that must be incurred (such as the cost of filing the patent). The cost also depends of course on what jurisdiction the patent is prepared and filed in, and on how complex the invention is. The current fee schedule for the US Patent Office is available at http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/ac/qs/ope/fees.htm.
