In a number of countries the financial services industry is highly regulated and will require someone obtain a brokers license before being able to act in the capacity of a broker. In the United States there are several licenses but the most common and comprehensive license used for the securities industry is the series 7 license through FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority). This will enable a person to act in the capacity of broker for a range of products including fixed income, equities, options etc… For commodities in the United States the series 3 license through the NFA (National Futures Association) is the most comprehensive license used for futures and commodities.
