a real estate broker brings together different parties in a real estate transaction and makes sure the process goes smoothly. For example, if you are looking to buy a house, a realtor will ask what kind of houses you may be looking for and show you multiple options until you find one you like. They will then draw up the contract and present it to the seller. They also may finance and provide closing services.
