A residential lease is where a property owner (Lessor) has a residential property that he wants to rent out for a period of time. The agreement that the tenant (Lessee) signs is a Residential Lease Agreement. The lease can be month to month or for any fixed period (typically 12 months). The lessee generally gives the owner a security deposit plus first months rent at the time of lease signing. The agreement spells out who may live in the home, who has what responsibilities and so forth. It also spells out the conditions under which the Lease can be terminated by either party. Many office supply retailers have standard agreements or one can be obtained from a Realtor.
