Financial investment is when an individual or institution invest their money in a financial vehicle in hopes of a return on that investment. Investments can be made in stocks, bonds, money market funds, mutual funds, commodities, real estate, etc. The key to success is knowing the particular sector or company you're investing in very well. There are also strategies to use based on your age, goals and how much risk you want to take. All investment is made with the idea that there will be positive returns.
