Institutional investing is investing done on behalf of a number of individual investors or entities. For example, mutual funds, endowment funds, commercial trusts, hedge funds, insurance companies, among a number of others are all what would be called institutional investors. Institutional investors account for close to fifty percent of all investing on the New York Stock Exchange.
