What is the difference between stock and shares?

Stock and shares are the same thing. If there is a difference, stock could be considered the overall number of shares added up together. Trading stock or trading shares is the same thing. So to understand it better, stock could be considered the company as a whole, and shares what that stock is divided up into. But investors use the terms interchangably, and the price of stock is understood to mean the price of an individual share of that stock.
