There is no national interest rate. However, every Thursday Freddie Mac publishes the average mortgage rates for the country. In addition, there are a number of other organizations that publish their average national mortgage rates as well. The national rates are only used as a benchmark to track the trend of rates nationally. They give us an indication as to where rates have been and perhaps where they are headed.
