The Russell 1000 Index is a list of 1000 of the largest companies in the United States and accounts for approximately 90 percent of the US market. The focus of this index is companies with large capitalization. The index is used as an indicator on the United States economy by investors. The Russell 1000 is referred to as a sub index of the broader Russell 3000 index. The Russell 2000 index is focused on companies with small capitalization and is also a sub index of the broader Russell 3000 index.
