There are two main types of stocks that pay dividends as their primary source of income to investors. One is preferred stocks, which usually pay dividends at a declared rate and remain stable in price, while utility stocks usually pay higher dividends than other types of common stock. Other common stocks also pay dividends, although they also tend to focus on capital gains.
