The types of questions asked during an interview will be determined by the conversation and types of questions asked. It is a good idea to ask questions that are succinct and to the point, demonstrating knowledge and interest. An interview is a two-way conversation. After asking questions, the interviewer usually invites the interviewee to ask questions. By asking informed questions, one not only gains knowledge about the potential employer, but also makes a good impression. Below are some good questions to ask during an interview.
On the Company:
What are the company's strengths and weaknesses compared to its competition? How does the organization rank within its field?
What is the organization's plan for the next five years, and how does this department fit in?
Could you explain your organizational structure?
There are many companies laying off right now. How has this company been able to maintain the workforce and continue to hire new employees?
Can you discuss your take on the companys corporate culture? What are the companys values?
What do you think is the greatest opportunity facing the organization in the near future?
On the Job:
What are the day-to-day responsibilities of this job?
What are some of the skills and abilities necessary for someone to succeed in this job?
How much guidance or assistance is made available to individuals in developing career goals?
Could you tell me about the way the job has been performed in the past? And, what improvements you'd like to see happen?
What are the challenges I would face in this position over the next three months?
I am very interested in pursuing this job further. What is the next step in the hiring process?
Would there be opportunities for advancement, and, how long before I might be considered for one?
What qualities do you value the most in those that report directly to you?
How is this department perceived within the corporation?
What have been its goals in the last year, and, did it meet them? What would be the goals of the department in the coming year?
Can you describe a typical day for someone in this position?
How many people have held this job in the last five years? Where are they now?
