Stocks can pay dividends either monthly, quarterly, semiannually or annually. In most cases, it is either monthly or quarterly. Or they can pay no dividends at all if they do not post a profit. But the shareholders must declare a dividend on the declaration date to the shareholders of record on the record date. The dividend is then paid on the payable date.
