Assuming you did your homework and invest with the mindset of being in it for the long term, the best time to sell your stock is never. If you sell your stock, unless it's in a protected retirement plan, you'll get hit with capital gains taxes, diminishing a big part of the profits. You of course also lose any future growth the stock may have. Having said that, there are occasional times when circumstances demand you exit a stock, and that could be an emergency where you must have the money, or some type of unforseen situation for you or for the company. Once example could be when automobiles were created and the horse and buggy companies folded. Obviously selling a stock like that would be best when you see a product or service will be replaced by new technology or products which will cause the former to fade away.
