The Nasdaq as it is known in the United States is currently owned by the Nasdaq OMX Group, Inc with their headquarters located in New York City. The company is publicly traded under the ticker NDAQ since February 2005 even though the shares were originally distributed during a private placement in 2000. The company is part of a network of exchanges and includes subsidiaries such as Nasdaq OMX Nordic Ltd.
