While I trade futures excusively, the FX market has some advanatges that shouldn't be overlooked.
One big one is that the FX market has three different sessions: the london, tokyo, and US session. This means that the FX market is truly open 24/6. If you are just starting to trade and can only watch the market during the evening, this can be a good alternative to just trading larger time frames.
Another advantage is that by using micro lots, you can commit very, very small amounts of capital when you are just starting out. I'm talking less than $100. This is helpful because you will have real money in the game, but not enough to be dangerous should you make an error or become emotional.
Some FX pairs also have huge amounts of volatility, while some pairs can be relatively docile.
