The Google Glass Video decision and why it will doom the device to fail.
Google's First Quarter of 2013 Results had revenues of $13.97 billion and its penetration with emerging markets and new product line indicate that their is further revenue growth potential. Google like Apple is considered one of the most successful technology companies and its release of new products is always eagerly anticipated.
So when Google released its early Google Glass videos displaying its augmented reality functions, most tech enthusiasts and early adopters were eager to try out the device. In addition Google also got a designer on board to make the device more appealing, marketed the device with the celebrity community as well as an early release to developers for applications.
Most people really appreciate the augmented reality concept and its future potential applications, however Google in the design process did not address the broader unintended consequences of having a permanent camera on the device. The privacy issues and considerations just for having this camera are plenty, notwithstanding the negative use of such a device at the beach, park, pool or school. All it initially requires is a Google glass user to do something unintended which will see the device legislated against by many countries. Consider that the device if multiple devices were hacked that this could also have significant security concerns.
The glasses with augmented reality applications is quite appealing but why they didn't just release the augmented reality glasses on its own without a recording camera is anyone’s guess.
