The timing of Huawei’s new release of a new stylish smart watch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona cannot be better: merely a week ahead of Apple, who is expected to host an event to present its competing device, the Apple Watch. With this move and timing, competition with the Apple Watch has intensified.
Richard Yu, the chief executive officer of Huawei's consumer business group stated in the conference that ‘It is the world's first wearable with sapphire crystal glass’. He also said Samsung's watches are "ugly" and Apple's is "okay"
Backing the notion of a smartwatch can resemble traditional watch, Huawei is striving to achieve harmony between the classic appearance of “the golden age of watch design” and the modern functionality of a phone-powered Android device. In comparison, Apple Watch is being positioned as an addition of iPhone on your wrist.
The display is covered by a 400x400 AMOLED sapphire glass which can be customised with a selection of 40 different interfaces. It's enclosed in stainless steel with a choice of gold, silver or black finishes. On top of that, Huawei is planning to offer a range of leather and stainless steel straps.
Key features of this Android Wear watch is that it can display call notifications and allows users to answer calls, a 6-axis motion sensor, and a barometer sensor, which tracks your movements, calories, and hours of sleep including deep sleep.
Pricing of the Huawei Smartwatch is yet to be revealed. The Watch will be available by mid year.
