Trade Tensions Increase Between China and US as China Targets Chicken Imports

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

The relationship between China and the United States is straining as a number of events have led the countries to enter what could end up being a trade war.

From a political point of view, selling more arms to Taiwan and Obama visiting the Dalai Lama in Tibet has increased tensions.

Before that the U.S. had imposed tariffs on tires from China, seeming to initiate the bad relationship.

Now China seems to be retaliating by looking to impose duties on chicken imports from the United States, saying poultry farms in America are selling them at prices too low to be fair.

Tariffs on the Chicken will begin on February 13. The so-called investigation into chicken prices began in September when the US imposed tariffs on the Chinese tires.
