British Airways May Expand Flights to United States

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

With business trips to certain destinations in America starting to increase, British Airways is looking into expanding their business-class flights to the U.S. as demand increases for premium travel.

Several markets being studied are New York, Boston and Washington, D.C.

“City-New York is performing really well and bookings are very encouraging,” said Chief Executive Officer Willie Walsh. “We’re considering more East Coast routes, but we need to be able to look at at least four months of operations before reaching a decision.”

The North American market is the largest for business travel, and British Airways is the top operator serving that segment at this time.

Walsh also revealed recently that the airline will refurbish a number of first-class seats, spending around $157 million to finish the task. Some of those seats will go for over $10,000 per trip.
