Proposed US Financial Regulation Reform

As President Barack Obama's new regulatory reform plan is proposed to congress, some of the changes for the financial regulation reform he has indicated includes:

  • Replacing the President's Working Group with a Financial Services Oversight Council that would co-ordinate regulators
  • Gives federal reserve more powers to regulate for financial firms and sytem
  • Treasury to re-examine regulatory capital of bank holding firms
  • Create new bank agency, the National Bank Supervisor
  • Consumer Products Safety Commission to regulate mortgage products by approving or denying them.
