In commodity market terminology, Ethanol or ethyl alcohol is a volatile and colorless liquid often made from grains that is perhaps best known as the active component in alcoholic beverages. In addition to its use as an intoxicant since ancient times, Ethanol has been widely used as a solvent and is gaining wider acceptance as an automotive fuel.

Ethanol futures trade on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) using the ticker symbol AC in U.S. dollar terms per gallon. One ethanol futures contract on the CBOT covers 29,000 U.S. gallons.
