What is the Transportation Industry?
The transportation industry, companies designed to move things and people, has gone through many evolutions since it was captured in the Dow Jones Transportation Industry back in 1884. None of those incarnations has been worse than what it has been going through the past 20 years. Airlines, the segment most would think of when you mention this industry, have been desomated to the point where they only represent 6% of the market weight in this index. The biggest US stocks in this industry are Fed Ex and UPS followed by some railroads and truck systems.
