Commodity Market Participants

The participants in a commodities market are varied. The lone constant participant throughout history have been the producers or farmers who rely on the markets in order to avoid a price disaster. They are able to use current prices as a gauge for how much crop or livestock to produce in the future and ensure the prices by buying a futures contract.

Others that participate in a trading or speculative trades include individuals, institutions, governments and, of course, the ubiquitous hedge funds.
