Apple Inc.(Nasdaq: AAPL) was founded in 1976 by Ronald Wayne, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. Incredibly, Wayne sold his stake in the company to Jobs and Wozniak for $800.
Apple isn't as easy a company to describe, as it has its hands in numerous electronic and tech products across a variety of sector, including personal computers, network solutions, communication devices and portable products like video and music players, along with numerous peripherals.
Products released over the last several years include the Apple iPod, iPhone and iPad; the MacBook, iWork and Apple TV, among a number of others.
The company owns and operates 273 of their own retail stores as of the end of the third quarter 2009, with 217 being in the United States and 56 international locations.
Acquisitions since 2005 include Fingerworks Gesture recognition company, Silicon Color Software, Proximity Software, P.A. Semiconductors and Lala.com, a streaming music company.
They went public in December 1980, which created close to 300 millionaires at its inception.
Apple Inc. is based in Cupertino, California.
