COF - Capital One Financial
Capital One Financial (NYSE:COF) was co-founded in 1988 by Richard Fairbank and Nigel Morris, spinning off from Signet Banking Corp. of Richmond, Virginia. Fairbank remains the Chairman and CEO of the financial institution to this day (as of this writing).
In a relatively short time, Capital One Financial has become one of the largest banks in America, based on deposits, and already has about 1,000 branch locations, most based in the Northeast, although they also have a presence in Texas and Louisiana.
Capital One offers a wide range of financial products and services to consumers, small business and larger commercial clients. Consumer accounts number at about 45 million.
There aer two major business lines at Capital One: Local Banking and National Lending. Under the National Lending line there are two units. One is auto financing and the other global lending.
Acquisitions include Hibernia National Bank, North Fork Bancorporation and Chevy Chase Bank.
The company is headquartered in McLean, Virginia.
