MO - Altria
When George Weyman opened the doors of his tobacco shop back in 1822, the first steps of what would eventually turn into Philip Morris - and ultimately the Altria Group (NYSE: MO) - were taken. Weyman was also the inventor of Copenhagen Snuff.
The Altria Group Inc. manufactures a number of tobacco products and sells them around the world, including cigars and pipe tobacco, along with their ubiquitous cigarettes.
Altria has branched out beyond tobacco to include Philip Morris Capital Corporation, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and SABMiller, among others.
Recent acquisitions by Altria include John Middleton, Inc. and most recently UST Inc., which cost them $10.4 billion.
