ORCL - Oracle
Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) was founded and incorporated by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner and Ed Oates in 1977 as Software Development Laboratories.
A couple of years later they renamed themselves Relational Software Inc. In 1983 they took on their current name of Oracle. In 1986 the company went public under that name.
There are two major operational business line in the company: software and services. The enterprise software company has as its core business the development, manufacturing and marketing of database and applications software to businesses.
Oracle has made a number of significant acquisitions during their relatively short history, including PeopleSoft, Global Logistics Technologies, Inc., Siebel Systems, Portal Software, Inc., Stellent, Inc., MetaSolv Software, Hyperion Solutions Corporation, BEA Systems, Silver Creek Systems, Inc. and Sun Microsystems.
The company is headquartered in Redwood City, California.
