United States Steel Corporation (NYSE:X) has some of the great entrepreneurs of American history involved with the inception of the company in 1901, which business luminaries such as Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Charles Swab part of the founding.
Interestingly, it wasn't those historically identifiable men that were the key figures in it, but rather it was a man named Elbert H. Gary who put the deal together, and was named as the first chairman of the new company.
Today the company has steel production facilities in North America and Europe, being a mere shadow of its former self, which had been one of the most feared businesses in America and the world at the height of its power.
There are three major business segments it operates: Flat-rolled Products, U. S. Steel Europe and Tubular Products, whereby it produces the manufacturing and marketing of steel products.
Beyond those core businesses, U.S. Steel also has operations and interests in real estate assets, transportation services and consulting.
