ACN stands for Australian Company Number. These unique nine-digit identifiers are issued to all companies resisted in Australia by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Australian companies must quote their ACNs on all of their correspondence and on their invoices, so if you're dealing with an Australian company and want to know their ACN, check something you've received from them. ACNs are normally quoted in three groups of three numbers each (for example 123 456 789).

Once you know a company's ACN, you can look it up on the Australian Business Register website (http://www.abr.business.gov.au/) to get information such as business location and trading names. Alternatively, you can do the same search by ABN (Australian Business Number) or by name.
