A commodity stock is an equity where the company has direct exposure to the commodity market. This includes commodity producers and commodity refiners. Commodity producers explore and produce commodity products. An example is Exxon who produces oil or ADM who produces corn. A refiner is a company that changes one product into another. For example, Valero refines oil into gasoline.
