A hedge fund is a pool of money managed by professionals to invest in financial instruments in search of high returns. A hedge fund is different from a mutual fund mainly in its choice of strategies and instruments. A hedge fund, unlike a mutual fund, can be involved in complex strategies such as shorting stocks and complex structured products such as CDS, CDO, etc.
