Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) iPad Business Site Now Live

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

In an effort to immediately expand the customer base for its iPad, Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) has been working on developing a Web site built to showcase the various things a business could use the new device for. The  site is now live ready to check out.

Right at the top of the page you get the message that iPad features a "built-in support for Microsoft Exchange, secure access to corporate data, and a powerful platform for apps, iPad is ready for work, right out of the box."

From there it works down the page giving a overall view of how your business can be enhanced by the iPad.

For example, if you use an iPhone, you'll find the same type of syncing support for your calendar, contacts and e-mail. You also have support for  CalDAV Calendaring, LDAP and IMAP e-mail.

And any business isn't going to care about what products or services are going to be offered if there isn't a security element that can be trusted as part of the package. Here's how Apple describes it:

"iPad offers layers of security to protect your data. You can require complex passcodes to access important information securely, encrypt data over the air and at rest, and even remotely wipe everything from your iPad instantly in the event of theft or loss.

Network communications are protected with built-in support for Cisco IPSec VPN, WPA2 Enterprise Wi-Fi, and SSL/TLS. IT departments can enforce complex passcodes and other policies on iPad to protect corporate data. And certificate-based authentication enables iPad to securely connect with corporate data via Exchange and VPN."

Other business aspects talked about include their powerful platform for apps, Safari web browser, configuration, iWork for iPad and iPad accessories.

It'll be interesting to see if Apple can push out the iWork application, as it hasn't been able to attract a lot of businesses to that yet, as Microsoft Office continues to own the space.
